Suspected rare immigrant, or perhaps accidentally imported. This native of West Indies is included on the British list on the basis of an individual taken near Cheltenham, Gloucestershire on 19 July 1961. Not recorded in Hampshire or on the Isle of Wight to date. Wingspan 48-55 mm. Similar to Buff Ermine Spilosoma luteum but larger with longer forewing. Larva feeds on various broad-leaved trees; no evidence of breeding in the UK.
