Very rare immigrant (less than 10 previous UK records) from southern Europe; there were three in the nineteenth century including two at Freshwater, Isle of Wight, in 1859 and 1876, and one at Cromer, Norfolk in 1875, and two in the 20th Century, one at Huntley, Gloucestershire in June 1968 and one on Shetland on 28 June 1997. Not recorded from Hampshire to date. Wingspan 42-52 mm. Larva feeds on Wild Strawberry and Dandelion; no evidence of breeding in the UK.
