Occurrence in the British Isles unconfirmed, this central European species is included on the British list on the basis of a single example, said to have been captured at Woodside, near Epping, Essex, in 1817. Most likely a specimen obtained fraudulently by the notorious dealer in rarities, Mr Plastead, so this record is highly dubious. Wingspan 48-52 mm. Larva feeds on herbaceous plants and various grasses, no evidence of breeding in the UK.
