Very rare immigrant (less than 10 previous UK records) from southern Europe, appearing in southern England on just one occasion when one was taken in a cornfield near the cliffs at Freshwater, Isle of Wight, in June 1873. Not recorded from Hampshire to date. Wingspan 16-18 mm. Resembles Small Marbled E. parva, however the postmedian fascia is straight with a single notch in Scarce Marbled and curved at the costa in Small Marbled. Larva feeds on flowers of Mountain Everlasting, no evidence of breeding in the UK.
