Classification

Family:Nepticulidae
Subfamily:Nepticulinae
Genus:Zimmermannia
Species:longicaudella
Authority:Klimesch, 1953

Status and distribution insufficiently known. Trapped in Britain for the first time in Buckinghamshire on 12 July 2009, and possibly overlooked in the past. Not reliably recorded in Hampshire or on the Isle of Wight to date, but the mines in the bark of Oak are indistinguishable from E. atrifrontella and it would be necessary to rear the imagos through for confirmation. As a result, all historical larval records of this species have been necessarily aggregated: records attributed to atrifrontella date back to 1977 at Newtown, Isle of Wight and found at Ashurst, New Forest, Botley Wood (VC11), Yateley Common (VC12) and scattered other localities across the county.
