Nationally scarce (Na) in grassland and moorland in south-eastern England, north to Lancashire. In Hampshire recorded up to 1973 from the New Forest and Hayling Island, but not since. Not recorded from the Isle of Wight since 1948. Wingspan male 10-14 mm, female wingless. Flies in sunshine. Larva feeds on various grasses, living within a movable case; case length 8-12 mm.
