Local on grassland, downland and moorland throughout much of the British Isles. In Hampshire and on the Isle of Wight very local in all three vice-counties, an increase in the number of records received in the first decade of the century may be due to increased observer coverage. Wingspan 16-23 mm. Distinguished from other British Eana species by the general coloration of the forewing, it may, however, be confused with Cnephasia longana, which it resembles in size and general coloration, but may be separated by the comparatively narrow forewing with the apex more produced, and the characteristic obscure markings [Bradley]. Larva feeds on herbaceous plants, various grasses and various mosses, living within a silken tube or tent.
