Nationally scarce (Nb) in dry pastures, gardens and parks throughout Britain, predominantly coastal in the north of its range. In Hampshire and on the Isle of Wight very uncommon, and recorded less than annually. Wingspan 12-16 mm. Differs from D. plumbana by its generally larger size, the presence of pale yellow irroration in the basal area of the forewing, and the darker hindwings [Bradley]. Day-flying. Larva feeds within roots of Tansy.
