Common in gardens, market gardens, allotments, farmland and woodland edges; 0-800 m (0-3000 m in Europe) throughout much of the British Isles, arriving as a migrant in significant numbers in some years; mainland Europe and Fennoscandia. In Hampshire and on the Isle of Wight widespread and common. Wingspan 46-55 mm. The primary larval foodplants are both native and farmed members of the Cabbage family (Brassicaceae), Sea-kale (Crambe maritima) and Wild Mignonette (Reseda lutea). Nasturtium (Tropaeolum majus) is also used
