Common in woodland, calcareous grassland, embankments and waste ground throughout the British Isles. Widespread and common in Hampshire and on the Isle of Wight. Wingspan 18-22 mm. The main confusion species is
Toadflax Pug E. linariata: in Foxglove Pug, the outer edge of the central cross-band is kinked at the costa, while in Toadflax Pug the central cross-band is gently curved at the costa. Larva feeds within flowers of Foxglove, over-wintering as a pupa.
