Common in broad-leaved woodland, heathland, marshes and gardens throughout the British Isles. Widespread and common in Hampshire and on the Isle of Wight. Wingspan 42-50 mm. Larva feeds on Silver and Downy Birch, and Alder, over-wintering as a pupa.
