Common in broad-leaved woodland and gardens throughout much of the British Isles. In Hampshire and on the Isle of Wight a common species in the vicinity of deciduous woodland throughout. Wingspan 31-39 mm. Fairly unmistakable. Larva feeds on a range of deciduous trees and shrubs including Hazel, Birch and Beech, over-wintering as a pupa.
