Common in coniferous and mixed woodland, plantations, parks and gardens throughout the British Isles. Widespread and fairly common in Hampshire and on the Isle of Wight. Wingspan 32-40 mm. Unmistakable. Larva feeds on needles of Scots, Corsican, Lodgepole and Maritime Pine, causing sufficient damage to be a serious pest in some areas.
