Local in woodland, moorland and heathland throughout the British Isles, more numerous in the north and west. Not reliably recorded in Hampshire or on the Isle of Wight to date. Wingspan 4-5 mm. Larva mines leaves of Rowan: see the key on the British leafminers site to distinguish: S. nylandriella and S. oxyacanthella are most likely in our area.
